What is a bug?

A bug is an error, a defect, or a malfunction in software or a computer system that causes unexpected or undesired behavior. It can affect the system's functionality, security, or performance and occurs when the software does not meet the specified requirements or produces incorrect results.

Common types of bugs:

  • Functional bugs: An option or feature does not behave as intended
  • UI/visual bugs: Issues related to the visual appearance, such as misaligned or unreadable elements
  • Performance bugs: System slowdowns or crashes
  • Security bugs: Vulnerabilities that compromise data or access

Bug Details

Example of a title: write the name of the Brainlead section where the bug occurs in square brackets, followed by a descriptive bug title.
Severity indicates the impact a bug has on the functionality or performance of the system. It helps determine the bug's priority based on how much it affects the application. Higher severity indicates that the bug significantly compromises the user experience or system functionality, while lower severity indicates a less serious issue with a smaller impact.
Type refers to the category of the bug, describing the nature of the issue encountered in the system. It can be useful for classifying the bug based on its origin or behavior. For example, common bug types include functionality errors (when a feature does not work as expected), user interface issues (problems related to appearance or usability), performance issues (slowdowns or speed problems), and security vulnerabilities (weaknesses in the system).
Replicability indicates the ability to consistently reproduce the bug. If a bug is replicable, it means it can be reproduced by following the same steps or conditions, enabling the development team to verify it and work on a solution. If a bug is non-replicable, it can be challenging to diagnose and fix, as it does not manifest under the same circumstances every time. Replicability is crucial for determining the bug's severity and its resolution priority.

System Information

The bug description provides a detailed overview of the issue encountered, explaining what is not functioning as expected. It includes information on how the bug manifests, the circumstances in which it occurs, and its effects on the application or system. A clear and precise description helps the development team better understand the issue, making diagnosis and resolution easier. It is also important to include any specific steps that led to the occurrence of the bug, to ensure replicability.
